The Orchard outer Classrooms experience

Kiryat motzkin, Israel
2023
Overview
Tucked away inside the primary school’s lush eco-orchard, this unique installation introduces three distinct handcrafted benches, each sculpted to serve a completely different purpose. The project transforms a natural green corner into an immersive environment where students can step outside their traditional indoor classrooms and experience their school day in a deeply engaging, transformative way.
Process
The entire creation process was a hands-on pedagogical journey built side by side with the primary school students. Guided through the art of environmental sculpting, the children actively participated in crafting three specialized forms to match different social and learning dynamics. By molding a grand circular bench for full-class outdoor lessons, a whimsical dragon-shaped bench for active play, and a smaller, cozy setup for intimate peer interactions, the project turned students into active co-creators of their own school landscape.
Outcomes
The final outcome is a vibrant, experiential sanctuary that has completely redefined how the school utilizes its outdoor spaces. Rather than just seating, these living sculptures invite children to explore new ways of learning and playing. The installation provides a safe harbor for creative storytelling, dynamic group studies, and sensory connection with nature, proving how art can successfully enrich childhood education and well-being.
