Roll the Dice: An Interactive Park Space
Various Public Parks and Community Villages
2023-2025
Overview
The 'Interactive Seating Series' reimagines traditional street furniture by transforming standard park corners into vibrant, multigenerational play hubs. Designed to combine ergonomic comfort with social entertainment, each installation in this ongoing collection features custom-sculpted benches centered around heavy-duty outdoor tables with built-in classic board games—such as Checkers, Chess, and Backgammon. These site-specific landmarks invite people of all ages to pause, interact, and step out of their daily digital routines.
Process
Every installation within this series is born out of a unique, community-centered design-and-build process. Working closely with local residents, municipalities, or schools, the conceptual layout is tailored to fit the specific needs and social dynamics of each location. To emphasize the playful essence of the project, the fluid shapes and final color palettes are directly inspired by the timeless geometry of traditional board games. This hands-on, sustainable construction approach allows participants to co-create their own surroundings while leaving a colorful, permanent artistic legacy.
Outcomes
The final results across various sites have successfully demonstrated how public art can activate underutilized spaces and turn them into lively open-air social centers. Rather than static monuments, these interactive seating areas serve as durable community anchors where children, parents, and seniors sit side-by-side, play, and spark conversation. By beautifully blending eco-conscious craftsmanship with functional play design, this expanding series offers an innovative blueprint for modern urban environments seeking deeper social cohesion.
