Harvesting Values: A Collaborative Youth Ceramic mosaic Wall

Netanya, Israel
2024
Overview
Titled 'To the Land of the Deer' (Al Eretz HaZvi), this large-scale ceramic mosaic mural at a Netanya high school seamlessly bridges artistic expression with character education. Serving as an inspiring permanent landmark on campus, the vibrant mural reflects both the regional natural landscape and the core ethical foundations of the school's younger generation.
Process
The creation process was structured as an interactive educational workshop where high school students took center stage. Moving beyond passive learning, the students actively shaped the artwork by hand-cutting ceramic pieces into the shapes of wheat leaves—a classic symbol of growth, nourishment, and community heritage. On each individual leaf, students personally engraved core human values such as friendship, mutual respect, giving, and love. Over weeks of collective craftsmanship, these meaningful pieces were systematically integrated into the larger mosaic grid, creating a warm environment built on shared purpose and connection.
Outcomes
The final outcome is a deeply layered, textured masterpiece that visually and textually speaks to anyone who passes by. Rather than just a decorative wall, the mural functions as a permanent daily reminder of the school community's shared ethical code. By turning abstract human concepts into tangible art, the project proudly showcases how public educational spaces can be utilized to empower youth, foster civic pride, and create a lasting cultural legacy.
